Current and future projects

Mail pou ou – E-mail for you (2018 – 2020)
Our newest project “Mail pou ou!” (Creole for “E-mail for you!”) started in January 2018. For the first time, we have been able to build a direct bridge between German and Haitian students. Thanks to the donation from the SKala-Initiative, both St. Emma and St. Nicolas will have a small computer station set up, where a new computer-science teacher will give classes.
Through this project, we can foster international connections and teach the Haitian children to work with computers - a skill that will certainly improve their future prospects in Haiti.

Water-fountains for St. Emma and St. Nicolas (2017 – 2019)
Through the support of BILD hilft e. V. „Ein Herz für Kinder“ and our active and sponsoring members, we have been able to raise the funds to build two drinking water-fountains in both, one each for St. Emma and St. Nicolas. This will help increase access to clean water for our over 600 pupils, their teachers, families and communities - which is not always given. Due to the poor infrastructure, poverty and recurring natural disasters, today over 40% of Haitians do not have access to clean drinking water.

Hygiene projects at St. Niclas & St. Emma (2017 – 2019)
After the success of our first hygiene project at St. Nicolas through the support of the Town & Country foundation in early 2018, the foundation has decided to continue and expand the project in St. Emma.
We are delighted that through this project we can improve the hygiene situation for over 300 children and their families. This project also improves the awareness of disease prevention among these communities. The students in St. Emma will receive classes on hygiene and disease prevention in their everyday lives, as well as essential items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste and soap. Additionally, the medical station at St. Emma will be equipped with much needed items such as soap and disinfectant.

Thanks for the support!

Past Projects

Construction of the Schoolbuildings of St. Emma and St. Nicolas (2013 – 2015)
Early 2013, in collaboration with nph Kinderhilfe Lateinamerika e.V., PEN PAPER PEACE e.V. was able to purchase two plots of land. The funds for the purchase of these plots came together through a nationwide campaign at German schools and though private donations via PEN PAPER PEACE. The former school "Temple de la Grâce" was renamed St. Emma during its administrative registration.

Our project partner nph was able to finish building the stonewall around St. Emma and St. Niclas in the summer of 2013, the construction of which was done completely by Haitian workers. Comprised of painters, carpenters, architects and masons, the team was made up of almost 30 men. In September 2013, the construction of the schools began. Special attention was paid to the foundation, to ensure the schools would stand in threats of hurricanes and earthquakes.

Right on time from the new school year, in the fall of 2013, the construction of St. Nicolas was completed. That October the first 278 students could attend first through sixth grade in proper classroom, in a building equipped with a kitchen and sanitary facilities.
Due to political unrest and supply issues, the construction of St. Emma was completed in early 2015. The students began classes in the new buildings in the Spring, and in September of that year, both schools were ceremoniously opened in attendance of PEN PAPER PEACE’s founder Dr. Alissa Jung.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our supporters! We are very proud of the work we have been able to accomplish together.
